Jay Worthy’s “GS 350” Music Video Filmed by Vancouver’s UBC Campus

Jay Worthy, an LA-based hip-hop artist signed to Griselda Records has released a new music video for his latest single "GS 350". After a busy 2022 year, with Worthy dropping three studio albums - including collab projects with Larry June, DJ Muggs, and Harry Fraud - the rapper is showing no sign of slowing down in 2023.
As the track’s “GS 350” title suggests, Jay Worthy’s newest project features the legendary mid-2000’s Lexus GS 350 model as the focal point of the track and video’s visuals. The Lexus GS models have long been a staple in hip-hop culture since the early 90s. Complex Magazine even gave the luxury car series a credit on their “25 most iconic hip-hop cars” list.
The music video for the Harry Fraud-produced track was filmed at various locations near the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. With camera work and drone piloting handled by Vancouver-based cinematographer, Gabe Roy, the featured scenes and locations are likely recognizable sights to locals.
Vintage lenses used to capture raw feel of the track
As listeners of Worthy’s music know, he draws much of his sonic inspiration from old-school west coast culture - West Coast G-funk, 90s boom bap, and soulful jazz. This track maintained his classic mixture of that palatable and nostalgic 90’s feel. Naturally, the visuals had to match.
Along with collaboration from Director, Lxve Affair, Gabe Roy incorporated the use of vintage glass to achieve the unique lens flares and textured, throwback feel in the video. The Helios 44-2 58mm was one of those lenses used - noted for its distinctive ‘swirly bokeh' and anamorphic-like response to direct light. The lens was also recently made popular among cinematographers as it was famously used in the latest Batman movie.
